Book Proof
What does' uncorrected proof copy "of a book?
I saw it in a book cover, but do not know what it means because it is assumed that will be better or worse than the first publication? (ie value)?
All the above are correct, but one thing is essential they were missing. Today, publishers are in a hurry to get a return on their investment, but they need to build a "buzz" in a book also, because unlike most films of the books do not have several million dollars earmarked for TV spots just before the hour out. They need to find a way to get coverage on free media rather than pay for it. You can imagine that, no doubt, have the typesetting the manuscript, then send the author and copyeditor at the home of the final corrections. (This position is in danger, because it is expensive and really do not bring money, why you're much more likely to see the spelling and typos and other obvious blunders in "finished" books, except from the editors of high reputation. When the accountants want to increase profitability, is the copy editors are compressed.) By the way, there are few authors, mostly for decades, who became notorious for rewriting the books of uncorrected proofs, so it might take months or years to finally sign a "final" version! You can imagine what its editors felt about this, especially given that they were paying every time to set printers each letter by hand. An advance copy of one of those books can be a great prize today. Anyway, while marketing people bite their collective knuckles, knowing who is leaving next season, July may be too late and the book will be "published in September. They can not wait for a revision of the author slow in his book, and have bad editors overworked that they can not access everything immediately (see above). Therefore, trying to make the best of it will send free 'uncorrected proof copies of' who they think might help sell the book. Most newspapers and book reviews that actually read the magazine from these tests are uncorrected, so sometimes I'll read a disclaimer when the reviewer cites an article in the sense that this could not be in the book they read. Sellers also proves correct these copies without owners of bookstores and publishing conventions, with the hope that bookshop owners will soon read it and recommend it to their customers, especially the circle book group listen to their advice, because this is how bed hits surprise many "as Memoirs of a Geisha and Snow Falling on Cedars get discovered. (I bet if Oprah calls back, gets one too ….) This is probably the book came from. This is a marketing copy. It's the book equivalent of a record album / CD sent before the release date to radio stations that could play. The reason it has "uncorrected proof copy" prominently, as it is for anyone trying to sell, as the publisher does not receive any money from the sale. Fortunately, although there could be more typos and grammar gaffes slip through, I no longer print books through the same kind of type of reuse that used to be used. When I corrected uncorrected proof copy of my mother for her book nearly 20 years ago, one of the larger parts of my job was broken for the type, as and tail down, or G without a complete loop and to the unfortunate word breaks, as in happy. Reading your copy, you can see if I am right. I could not say whether more or less valuable than a first edition. While it is probably more rare, is also probably more ugly (no final cover art, perhaps, or proper sewn binding and hard cover cloth bound cover), and it would be so cute sitting on the shelf of a collector. If it is one of the ancient authors who could have made significant changes from the copy of the test, probably so, or are too old (Rudyard Kipling?), But the odds are probably against it. Of course, if this is an uncorrected proof copy of some of the early distribution of highly restricted, for some reason, it could have some value. So if this is an uncorrected proof of, say, the last Harry Potter, I give you $ 50 he! (laugh laugh)

The Bends $4.41 While Radiohead saw its stock rising in 1994, it wasn’t until 1995′s The Bends that it really became a blue chip band. And for good reason. Even singles like the title track didn’t give in to the kind of swooning guitar clichés usually embraced by commercial radio. If the CD proved anything, it … |

Proof Theory (Paperback) $119.91 This book verifies with compelling evidence the author`s inclination to "write a book on proof theory which needs no previous knowledge of proof theory". Avoiding the cryptic terminology of proof as far as possible, the book starts at an elementary level and displays the connections between infinitary proof theory and generalized recursion theory, especially the theory of inductive definitions. As a "warm up" the classical analysis of Gentzen is presented in a more modern terminology to proceed with explaining and proving the famous result by Feferman and SchC |

Art of Proof (Hardcover) $31.75 The Art of Proof is designed for a one-semester or two-quarter course. A typical student will have studied calculus (perhaps also linear algebra) with reasonable success. With an artful mixture of chatty style and interesting examples, the student`s previous intuitive knowledge is placed on solid intellectual ground. The topics covered include: integers, induction, algorithms, real numbers, rational numbers, modular arithmetic, limits, and uncountable sets. Methods, such as axiom, theorem and proof, are taught while discussing the mathematics rather than in abstract isolation. The book ends with short essays on further topics suitable for seminar-style presentation by small teams of students, either in class or in a mathematics club setting. These include: continuity, cryptography, groups, complex numbers, ordinal number, and generating functions. |

Proof Analysis (Hardcover) $77.52 "We shall discuss the notion of proof and then present an introductory example of the analysis of the structure of proofs. The contents of the book are outlined in the third and last section of this chapter. 1.1 The idea of a proof A proof in logic and mathematics is, traditionally, a deductive argument from some given assumptions to a conclusion. Proofs are meant to present conclusive evidence in the sense that the truth of the conclusion should follow necessarily from the truth of the assumptions. Proofs must be, in principle, communicable in every detail, so that their correctness can be checked. Detailed proofs are a means of presentation that need not follow in anyway the steps in finding things out. Still, it would be useful if there was a natural way from the latter steps to a proof, and equally useful if proofs also suggested the way the truths behind them were discovered. The presentation of proofs as deductive arguments began in ancient Greek axiomatic geometry. It took Gottlob Frege in 1879 torealize that mere axioms and definitions are not enough, but that also the logical steps that combine axioms into a proof have to be made, and indeed can be made, explicit. To this purpose, Frege formulated logic itself as an axiomatic discipline, completed with just two rules of inference for combining logical axioms. Axiomatic logic of the Fregean sort was studied and developed by Bert-rand Russell, and later by David Hilbert and Paul Bernays and their students, in the first three decades of the twentieth century. Gradually logic came to be seen as a formal calculus instead of a system of reasoning: the language of logic was formalized and its rules of inference taken as part of an inductive definition of the class of formally provable formulas in the calculus"– |

Discrete Mathematics With Proof (Hardcover) $110.16 The book begins with an introductory chapter that provides some explanation and examples of what discrete mathematics is about, which is a unique feature to this discrete mathematics text.  The formal setting is introduced in Chapter 2 where sets, logic, and Boolean algebra are discussed. Chapter 3 then discusses axiomatic mathematics as a system and subsequently focuses on proof techniques. The proof techniques are extensively illustrated throughout the rest of the book. For example, complete induction with the "optimality of the Deferred Acceptance Algorithm for suitors" in Chapter 3; proof by contradiction with The Halting Problem in Chapter 4; and constructive proofs with "a finite projective plane of order n iff n-1 mutually orthogonal Latin squares of order n" in Chapter 8.  Combinatorial proof is introduced in Chapter 5 and used in Chapter 8 to establish the necessary conditions for the existence of a balanced incomplete block design.  Technology is introduced when it will enhance understanding. For example, several applications that explore the inner workings of recursion are presented in Chapter 7, a simple perl script (also a web page front-end to that script) that enables students to practice creating regular expressions is discussed in Chapter 9, and a java application that allows students to rubber-band graphs to check for planarity is featured in Chapter 10.  Combinatorics receives more coverage than is typical, and additional unique topics include container problems (advanced counting), Latin squares, finite projective planes, balanced incomplete block designs, coding theory, Ramsey numbers, and systems of distinct representatives. Additional topical coverage includes counting, finite probability theory, recursion, formal models in computer science, graph theory, trees, the concepts of functions and relations.  Several other topics receive more coverage than is typical, including expressing a |

Recession-proof Living (Paperback) $6.91   Make the impossible possible by following God’s principles for life   Bill Wiese had a successful real estate career spanning over thirty-five years—through both good and tough economic times. Early in his career, he made the decision to carefully study the Bible and apply God’s methods to every move that he made. As a result, he attained success that was unheard of for many other agents, simply because he adhered to God’s plan.   In Recession-Proof Living, he shares these biblical principles along with true stories of his experiences to demonstrate how anyone can achieve success—spiritually, financially, physically, and corporately—by living according to God’s economic system.   Not simply a book about how to make money, Recession-Proof Living shows you how to live a life that guarantees success—God’s way. Even if every effort and method you’ve tried has failed, living by God’s standard won’t.   |
